Hello Reader, Last week I was sharing my teaching origin story with some dear friends. It began back in 2005 at The Space, run by Marta and Wendy in Yaletown, Vancouver. I'm so grateful that I came up under their care. It was like no other space at the time. The energy of The Space was truly transformative. It was multidisciplinary in its offerings and collaborative in a way I'd never experienced. It was a true space for healing, but also for learning. I skipped over all the controversy about classical versus contemporary Pilates, what lineage was most authentic, etc., etc. I didn't know what I didn't know, and I'm so grateful for it! I was nurtured into teaching confidently from my own lens. I would go on to study yoga and deepen my Pilates training, and later build into mind-body somatic coaching. But those early years built trust for me on my path. I'm a real human with a whole heart, and I want to teach what I know from that place, just like I was brought up to. I learned early on that you can teach from your own lens without needing anyone else's to be wrong. I've been seeing a trend in the online Pilates community of putting down other people's paths, and it feels so yuck to me. One thing I know from my lifetime of teaching is that we are never done our learning. There's another chapter just around the corner. And speaking of learning... if you missed signing up for fall classes last week, it's not too late to hop in. The Monday class starts tonight, and the Wednesday and Friday classes are only one week in. Each class has a replay, so you can catch up on what you missed.
