What are your movement goals, really?

Hello Reader,

I’ve been thinking about goals this week, and more specifically, movement goals.

Most of what we’re offered in the fitness world is directed outward. Lose weight, get more flexible, strengthen your arms, improve your posture. There’s usually something to change, and something to measure.

And while those goals are meaningful, they’re only part of the picture.

What I see happen over time, especially with people who stay in a practice for a while, is that the more meaningful changes are often internal.

Things start to feel a little clearer. Decision making becomes less effortful. There’s more capacity when something difficult comes up. A bit more space before reacting. A softening in how you relate to yourself, and often to other people too. A stronger sense of what actually matters to you.

These shifts are subtle, but they change how you move through your life.

You might even take a moment to consider this for yourself.

If you were to set a movement goal that had nothing to do with how your body looks, what would it be?

Maybe it’s something like feeling more steady, being more decisive, pausing before you speak, or toning down the self-critic.

It doesn’t have to be big or perfectly defined. Just something that feels true enough to begin.

When I think about what makes my classes feel different, it’s not just the exercises or even the way I teach them. It’s the way we spend time in the room together.

There’s space to pause, even briefly. To notice what’s happening in your body while you’re moving. To check in with yourself in small ways.

You might catch a moment where you’re pushing past something instead of listening. Or notice that something actually feels good when you let it. Or realize you’ve drifted into just following along, and gently come back.

These moments are easy to miss, but they add up. Over time, they build a different kind of relationship with your body. One that tends to carry into everything else.

If that’s something you’ve been wanting to explore, the next round of classes starts May 11th.

Here’s a clearer sense of each one:

Pilates as Practice (Mon 6:00pm or Wed 5:30pm)
A steady, engaging class for those who enjoy moving with attention, curiosity, and care. We work at a moderate pace, revisiting familiar exercises while building strength, coordination, and ease over time. Best suited to those with Pilates experience.

Pilates Foundations (Tues 5:30pm)
An eight-week series focused on the fundamentals. We move at a slower pace so you can learn, feel, and understand the work, building strength and confidence gradually. A great place to start, or to return to the basics with more depth and clarity.

Pilates for Strength and Ease (Wed 9:30am)
A thoughtful class that builds strength while supporting comfort and ease. We move continuously with attention to alignment and breath, helping you feel stronger, more supported, and more capable in your body.

All classes are live on Zoom with replays available, and options are always offered so you can meet yourself where you are.
